From the Colorado River to the Pacific
I’m Robert Jacobo III, an enrolled member of the Fort Mojave Indian Tribe. I grew up on the reservation in Mohave Valley, Arizona — a river kid, raised on water that runs instead of breaks.
These days I fish an ocean. King Harbor, the Redondo pier, the jetties out toward Palos Verdes. The water is different; the relationship isn’t.
RespectWaterCulture
Three words in the order they have to go in.
Respect
For the fish, for the water, and for the people who were fishing here long before any of us. We keep what we’ll eat and we’re careful with what we put back.
Water
King Harbor. Topaz. Avenue C. Malaga Cove. RAT Beach. We name our spots because we actually fish them, and we leave them cleaner than we found them.
Culture
Native-owned, Fort Mojave enrolled, run out of Redondo Beach — and open to anybody who wants to pick up a rod and learn out loud.
